Indeed, they seem to have backed away from real names on the forums. They need to offer a proper way to opt out of RealID in game. I've setup parental controls on my account, using the same e-mail address as the account, so my RealID is disabled. It would be nice if it was possible to opt out of RealID without doing parental controls, but it doesn't really make too much practical difference to me. What better controls would show me is that Blizzard has some respect for their customers.

Need ranged DPS for ICC 25, must have 5500 gs, vent, enabled Real ID, and credit score > 600. whisp with ss#.

Blizz's default controls have always sucked. I bet they were hoping an addon author would make a better RealID configuration

I figure they got counts of how many people had canceled automatic subscriptions, even if the account was still active. One of my accounts expires in two weeks; the other not until December.

At this point, I will be resubscribing, yes.

I want to see RealID in game fixed, but...

I'm back, but only in limited capacity. I'm giving probably 45% of my attention to COH, 45% to FFXIII (which is FANTASTIC, despite being 30 hours into it and not being out of the goddamn tutorial yet) and 10% to WOW. I'm not sure if I'm going to be raiding again, but the Cataclysm stuff has me too nostalgic/excited (noscited?) to stay away now that RealID's been somewhat scaled back. I'm still not happy about having to pretend to be my own parent to get around it, but it'll do for now.

Probably going to be focusing on my baby rogue that's now really a tweenager (I hate that word and everything associated with it, so naturally I use it.) in terms of game progress. She's about to graduate to Outland! Just have to get through Un'Goro and Silithus first, though.
